So Much to See, So Little Time

This morning was super rainy, so the job site visit was cancelled. Instead, we went to the Shanghai Museum. We started at the fourth floor and saw Chinese costumes, jade, and the different uses for silver. We only made it halfway through the third floor before having to meet back up with the group. Shanghai is very modernized, so it was cool to see stuff about Chinese history.

We also saw some really intricate scrolls and paintings. Chinese characters and symbols are so unique and delicate.

We're Going Shopping

After the museum, we went to a huge indoor mall. It was 9 floors and had a rooftop garden. It was rainy and blocked off, but there is a glass floor that lets you see down through the whole mall. Mikey and I went into this one store that looked cute, and turned into a story I will remember forever. We barely looked at one shirt, and the store workers rushed over and had Mikey try on a few tops. They were super nice and part of us just wanted to spend the $150 on the shirt so we didn't hurt their feelings. The other part of us knew that wasn't the right call, so me built up the courage to say no thank you and leave the store.

We had Pizza Hut for dinner. It was funny being in China and going to Pizza Hut, but this was no ordinary Pizza Hut. If Pizza Hut in America was more like this, maybe I'd eat there more. There were waiters, steak, and volcanic desserts. The pizza was really good and more of a thin crust style.

I also had some trouble finding the soap in the restroom. It sounds like such a simple task, but I was struggling. I asked the lady next to me and she showed me where the soap dispensed and then showed me her hand with the soap. I thought she was offering me the soap, so I swiped it off her hand. I now realized she was just showing me the soap to show me, but I stole this lady's soap. She's definitely telling all her friends about the crazy American girl who stole her soap in the bathroom. Mikey also saw the whole thing happen.

More Shopping

Our last stop for the day was visiting the underground market. I'm a pushover and haggling is not one of my strong skills. I did end up buying a small change purse, but I think I did well for my first real bargaining experience. I may have come up 40 yuan and they only came down 10 yuan, but I'm still proud of myself.
